I am currently adding audiobook chapters one at a time each day. Please be patient as the full library is roughly 100 hours of audio and will take approximately 6–12 months to complete. I am also writing 6 new novels. I write a new novel every 1-2 months. I appreciate your membership; it is the best way to support my work.

Number Set Notations and Universal Quantifiers

This reference sheet introduces standard number set notation and universal quantifiers used in algebra, precalculus, calculus, discrete mathematics, and proofs.

Number Set Notations

Real Numbers, R

 \mathbb{R} = (-\infty,\infty)

Complex Numbers, C

 \mathbb{C} = \{ a + ib \mid a,b \in \mathbb{R},\ i=\sqrt{-1} \}

Integers, Z

 \mathbb{Z} = \{ \ldots,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,\ldots \}

Positive Integers (Natural Numbers), N = Z⁺

 \mathbb{Z}^+ = \mathbb{N} = \{1,2,3,\ldots\}

Rational Numbers, Q

 \mathbb{Q} = \left\{ \frac{a}{b} \mid a,b \in \mathbb{Z},\ b \neq 0 \right\}

Irrational Numbers, R \ Q

 \mathbb{R} \setminus \mathbb{Q} = \{ e,\pi,\sqrt{2},\ldots \}

Universal Quantifiers and Logic Symbols

  • in, \in
  • not in, \notin
  • such that, \exists
  • therefore, \therefore
  • because, \because
  • exists, \exists
  • for all, \forall
  • divides, \mid
  • does not divide, \nmid
  • implies, \Rightarrow
  • if and only if (iff), \Leftrightarrow
  • modulo or equivalent, \equiv

Why These Symbols Matter

These number sets and logical quantifiers appear throughout algebra, calculus, discrete mathematics, proofs, and engineering mathematics. Understanding these symbols early makes it easier to read textbooks, write proofs, and understand formal mathematical language.
