Recall the Square Root Rule

x^2=a \quad \Rightarrow \quad x=\pm\sqrt{a}

Take the Square Root of Both Sides

3z-2=\pm\sqrt{4}

3z-2=\pm2

Split Into Two Equations

3z-2=2 \quad \text{or} \quad 3z-2=-2

Solve Each Equation

3z-2+2=2+2

3z=4

z=\frac{4}{3}
